NANOFIL Nova® Etchant Gel

NANOFIL Nova® Etchant Gel is a high-performance phosphoric acid etchant available in semi-gel form with 35% and 37% concentration options. Specifically designed for etching enamel and dentin prior to restorative procedures, it effectively removes the smear layer, demineralizes tooth structure, and creates a micro-retentive surface that enhances bonding performance.


Featuring a high-viscosity gel formulation, NANOFIL Nova Etchant Gel prevents unwanted flow and enables precise placement, ensuring etching is confined strictly to the intended treatment area. It rinses off easily without residue, improving wettability and bond strength for reliable restorative outcomes.


The product is available with optional benzalkonium chloride (BAC) for antimicrobial effects—formulated to combat caries-causing bacteria including Streptococcus mutans and Actinomyces viscosus. Primarily engineered for the selective-etch technique, NANOFIL Nova Etchant Gel is also compatible with total-etch on demand, and can be used as a cleaner for indirect restorations (30-second cleaning duration; not for zirconia substrates).

Q1: How does the bond strength compare to other professional etchant gels?
A: Shear bond strength testing on both enamel and dentin shows statistically equivalent results to market-leading etchants (p>0.05) under total-etch and selective-etch protocols. Full test reports available on request.
Q2: Is the BAC version safe for all patients?
A: The BAC concentration (0.1%) is well below cytotoxicity thresholds and has been confirmed safe in biocompatibility testing per ISO 10993-5. However, for patients with known quaternary ammonium sensitivity, we recommend the BAC-free version.
Q3: How long should I etch enamel vs. dentin?
A: Recommended etching time is 15-20 seconds for enamel and 10-15 seconds for dentin. For selective-etch technique, apply only to enamel for 15-20 seconds, avoiding prolonged dentin exposure. Detailed protocols are included in our IFU.
Q4: Does it work with self-etch adhesives?
A: While primarily designed for total-etch and selective-etch protocols, Nova Etchant Gel can also be used in combination with self-etch adhesives when additional enamel conditioning is desired. Many clinicians use this hybrid approach for optimal enamel bonding.
Q5: What applicator tips are included?
A: Each 5mL syringe comes with 20 disposable fine-tip applicators (25-gauge) for precise placement. Extra tips and pre-bendable cannulas are available as accessories.
